Mysterious illness in Congo: Heavy malaria demands dozens of deaths!

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the health authorities have finally brought light into the darkness of a mysterious wave of illness that has already frightened thousands. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the cause of the recent deaths in the Panzi region, 700 kilometers southeast of the capital Kinshasa, could be attributed to severe malaria and respiratory diseases in connection with malnutrition. A total of 430 laboratory samples had been tested positively for malaria and various respiratory viruses, which increased the concerns of the locals. As OE24 at the beginning of the month had been unsuccessful after the first symptoms have been observed since October goods.

The terrifying numbers speak for themselves: of 891 documented diseases that had severe symptoms such as fever and breathing difficulties died at least 48 people, including many children under the age of five, which are particularly at risk. This controversial "illness X" raged primarily in the province of Kwango and left people in great concern, while the authorities struggled with the rapid increase in cases. The lack of diagnostics and the difficult accessibility of the affected region also made the situation more difficult, such as

doctors and helpers work under high pressure

The fatal risk of the malnutrition of those affected has turned out to be particularly worrying because it makes every infection potentially life -threatening. The WHO reports on poor living conditions and a lack of medical care in the affected areas, which affects the efforts to help quickly. Thanks to close cooperation with the USA, samples are now also transported by air to enable immediate analyzes and get the dramatic location under control. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and what measures the government will take to protect the population.
