Brutal fall: torture general in Syria caught after change of power!
On December 26, 2024, the Syrian Revolution took a significant step towards shedding light on the atrocities committed under the former regime of Bashar al-Assad: General Mohammed Kanjo Hassan, who was responsible for numerous death sentences in the notorious Saidnaya Prison, was arrested. This brutal prison general, who headed the military justice system from 2011 to 2014 and is considered one of the main perpetrators of the torture and murder of prisoners, fell into the hands of the security forces of the new Syrian leadership in Chirbet al-Maasa. This is reported by the crown.
The arrest came only after failed attempts in which three representatives of the old government and 14 security forces were killed. Hassan is credited with sentencing “thousands of people” to death during his service. According to the Association of Prisoners and Missing Persons of Saidnaya Prison (ADMSP), an estimated 30,000 people have been incarcerated in the military prison since 2011, many of whom are still missing. Those affected and their relatives are desperately searching for the truth and are demanding that the crimes of the former rulers be clarified and those responsible be held accountable n-tv reported.
Justice for the victims
The newly formed interim government sees Hassan's arrest as an important step towards justice and addressing the crimes committed during the Assad regime. The National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces described the arrest as a significant success, while relatives of missing people gather daily in Damascus to draw attention to the fate of their loved ones. Their demands are clear: “I don’t want an unknown grave for my son, I want the truth,” was one of the many messages delivered to the new rulers.
