Vienna is taking action: new measures against annoying illegal parking!
In Vienna there is an end to the plague of illegal parking, which is massively affecting trams and buses! Time and time again, public transport passengers have to be patient while the means of transport come to a standstill due to incorrectly parked cars. “Please wait!” is said almost four times a day, which affects not only the passengers but also the drivers. The city of Vienna and the Wiener Linien then decided to take a series of tough measures. In September 2023, the fines for parking on trams were increased from 128 euros to 365 euros - that corresponds to the price of an annual ticket! This income will be invested in the further expansion of public transport, such as Today.at reported.
In order to combat the problem in the hotspots, structural measures have been implemented since last year. Camillo-Sitte-Gasse in Rudolfsheim is particularly affected, where a total of 31 incidents were recorded in 2023 that prevented line 9 from continuing its journey. In order to get traffic there rolling again, extensive redesigns of the stops are planned for 2025. The sidewalk will be wider, the stops will be extended, and more green space will be created - Wiener Linien and the district are investing around 600,000 euros in this. District boss Dietmar Baurecht is optimistic: “The problem of obstruction to public transport is finally being solved,” he praises the measures. Also 5 minutes reports on the necessity of these changes, which are intended to sustainably strengthen public transport in the city. These measures are an important step in the right direction to ensure that trams and buses in Vienna can transport their passengers unhindered in the future.
