World Ski Championships in Saalbach: German runners hope for medals and sensations!
The anticipation for the 48th Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm is huge! The exciting spectacle begins on February 4th with a grandiose opening ceremony, followed by exciting competitions until February 16th. The venue, known as the “Home of Lässig”, has already hosted a World Alpine Skiing Championships in 1991, and this year the most spectacular athletes will compete for medals, like the Sports show reported.
Innovations and exciting competitions
A total of eleven titles will be awarded, including the newly introduced team combination competition, which includes both downhill and slalom. The best athletes from two nations will compete in a duo, which creates additional excitement.
This World Cup also promises an incredible economic boost for the region. A current study shows that the 2013 Alpine Ski World Championships in Schladming-Dachstein triggered economic development of 731 million euros to 1.27 billion euros today. This represents an increase of over 70 percent since then, according to OTS was announced. For every euro invested, almost two euros flowed back into the regional authorities.
German and international medal chances
The German ski racers made flexible nominations due to the high number of injured athletes. There are particularly high hopes for Lena Dürr and Linus Straßer in the slalom. In the men's race, the Swiss Marco Odermatt is the top favorite for several gold medals after a stuttering start. The American ski star Mikaela Shiffrin, despite her injury, could also cause a sensation again in the slalom and giant slalom.
It will be exciting to see who sees the finish slope as the first reward for their efforts. The dramatic competitions will not only thrill the fans, but will also cause the price for the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region to rise monumentally again!
