St. Nicholas Post Office in Bad Oldesloe: Sales figures are collapsing!

Bad Oldesloe.A shock for the St. Nicholas Post campaign 2024! While over 22,000 letters were sent last year, this year there are only 19,267 - a dramatic decrease of almost 3,000 letters! The students are at a loss and are looking for explanations for this unexpected break-in. The deadline for entries was November 27th, and the disappointment is palpable.

At the Ida-Ehre-Schule (IES, one of the eight participating schools), the envelopes remained almost untouched. Only 2,000 were sold, while two years ago half of the 4,000 envelopes prepared were gone in the first week of sales. “The handwritten greeting is simply no longer valued these days,” says student representative Mieke Kägler. Classmate Antonio Stefani-Dohrendorf sees the lack of chocolate as the main reason for the decline: "There used to be a chocolate lollipop with every letter, now there's only a chocolate Santa Claus, no matter how much mail you get."

Acceptance of teachers increases

Although more letters were sold at the Theodor Storm School (TSS) than in previous years, student representative Sandra Gattermann had to listen to a lot of criticism. The price of the letters rose from five to 25 cents, which many consider to be too expensive. In addition, more and more teachers are taking part in the campaign, while the number of students is falling. The Theodor Mommsen School (TMS) remains the leader with 4,000 letters, but also recorded a decline compared to 2022 (5,500 letters).

Donation amount remains safe

Despite the decline, the sale will not have a negative impact on donations for the regional nonprofit. The schools will round up the amounts generated so that the Lebensweg hospice can expect a sum of between 1,200 and 1,300 euros. The exact calculations are still ongoing, but support remains assured!
