The big secret of Verden Cathedral: A look behind the scenes!

Verden Cathedral, an architectural jewel with over 1,000 years of history, is now being celebrated in a new book. Dr. Dieter Hasselhof, a long-time expert on sacred buildings and part of a family that has been connected to the cathedral community for 500 years, worked on his comprehensive work “Verden Cathedral” for three years. It will be published just in time for Christmas with an initial print run of 500 copies. In over 300 pages and more than 800 illustrations, Hasselhof not only provides dry facts, but also tells vividly the history of the important church building, which was traditionally visited by Nordic pilgrims, as well as the Weser courier reported.

The book covers classics and exciting anecdotes, from the time the crypt was used as an air raid shelter to the church windows that were damaged during the war. Hasselhof also explains the meaning of a remarkable stone – the “Stone Man” on the gable, whose story is deeply anchored in local legend and reminds us of the falsehood of the journeymen. It is a work that not only illuminates the past, but also brings together the fascinating details of the cathedral's history and is highly praised by important figures in the Hanover monastery chamber, such as Hendrik Boldt District newspaper holds on.

With four chapters offering tours through and around the cathedral, the reader is transported into a world where past and present meet. Hasselhof's goal was to create a "reading book" that both informed and entertained. The price for the impressive work is 39.90 euros and it is available in local bookstores. Given the cultural and historical significance of the cathedral, this publication is sure to attract great interest.
