New search for Madeleine McCann: Hope for crucial clues!

On June 2, 2025, a new search operation began in Portugal in the case of Madeleine McCann, who had been missing since 2007. This initiative measure was taken by Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) initiated and receives support from the Portuguese police. The focus of the search is on an area between the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz, where Maddie was last seen, and a finca where the main suspect Christian B. lived at the time of the crime. This comprehensive search operation is the first major measure since May 2023, when a search for clues in a reservoir in the Algarve was unsuccessful.

Christian B. is considered a suspected perpetrator, is a convicted sex offender and is currently in custody for other sex-related offenses. However, in October 2024 he was acquitted in another trial. To date, no murder charges have been filed against him. In the current search operation, the investigators hope to find crucial clues before Brückner's arrest approaches in order to move the case forward. The action is described as routine to take into account all available information.

New findings and evidence

Madeleine McCann's story began on May 3, 2007, when her parents Kate and Gerry McCann left their children at their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz while they had dinner nearby. Around 10 p.m., Kate noticed that Madeleine had disappeared. A friend reported seeing a man carrying a child that evening, which further complicated the account of what happened. After an extensive investigation that took many twists and turns over the years, the Portuguese authorities closed the investigation in 2008.

Investigations and missing person cases in Germany

The BKA plays a central role in the processing of missing person cases and coordinates searches both domestically and internationally. There are currently around 9,420 missing person cases registered in Germany, with around 50% of the cases being solved within the first week. The authority also handles specific cases in which minors are considered missing and, in cases of acute danger, initiates extensive search efforts, often involving local police and emergency services.

Despite extensive efforts, Madeleine McCann's case remains unsolved to this day. However, the renewed search operation in Portugal could open up new perspectives and contribute to the hopefully soon clarification of the case. The McCanns and investigators are determined to do everything in their power to shed light on the mystery and learn the truth about their daughter's fate.
