Hero of Villach: How a food delivery driver stopped a knife attack!

A shocking incident occurred in Villach, Austria, on Saturday when a 23-year-old Syrian, Ahmad G., randomly stabbed passers-by, killing a 14-year-old youth and injuring five other people, two of them seriously. According to witness statements, the perpetrator shouted “Allah Akbar” during the gruesome act. Alaaeddin Alhalabi, a 42-year-old Syrian food delivery driver and now the city's hero, was able to avoid something worse through his quick actions. He observed the attack as he was delivering a delivery in his car and saw several injured people lying on the ground. Without hesitation, he rammed the attacker head-on with his vehicle to prevent him from further attacks.

How oe24 reported, Alhalabi found himself in an awkward situation after his courageous intervention. The surrounding people initially thought he was the attacker and stormed towards his car, which further escalated the situation. He fled in his car to the nearest police station to inform the officers about what was happening. Shortly afterwards, Ahmad G. was caught by the police. According to police spokesman Rainer Dionisio, they spoke of a heroic act that probably prevented worse injuries and further deaths.

Chaotic scenes in the city

The scene before the incident was chaotic; Eyewitnesses reported screaming and people panicking. 20 minutes quotes a witness who wanted to alert the first responders, but had to reach the police in the chaos. While the emergency services fought for the injured passers-by, Ahmad G. initially remained motionless after the collision with Alhalabi and was later brought under control by security officers. Another witness told of an attack that was stopped in seconds by Alhalabi, showing how precarious the situation in Villach must have been.
