Coco-Taxi” drug ring smashed in Vienna – six arrests!

In Vienna, police have dismantled an extensive drug ring under the name “Coco-Taxi”, which had been active since 2019 and delivered cocaine to customers using taxis. The investigation revealed that the dealers operated with two taxis that were used to transport the drugs and their buyers. The back seat of the taxi became the crime scene, where the deal was made during the ride. In return for compensation, the taxi drivers received tips to keep their silence, as they said Volksblatt reported.

Through intensive investigations, the police, supported by the Wega special unit, were able to arrest six suspects, including two Austrian taxi drivers aged 46 and 58, as well as a 36-year-old Egyptian and three Nigerians aged 35 to 47. During the time they were working, they are said to have sold at least 3.6 kilograms of cocaine. During the arrests, 1.4 kilograms of cocaine and a four-figure sum in typical denominations were also seized oe24 reported.

Detailed investigations and arrests

At first glance, the drug dealers' approach was surprisingly simple: customers ordered a taxi and were immediately given the dealer in the vehicle. The trip served as an alibi for the perpetrators, while the drug deals took place under the cover of the moving taxi. The first arrests took place in June, followed by further arrests in September. The final suspect was only caught on December 6, demonstrating the comprehensive and structured nature of the investigation. After the arrest, the taxis used were seized and the suspects were taken to a prison, where some of them have already been sentenced to prison terms.
