In the Styrian parish of Fischbach, a dramatic incident occurred on Saturday evening during the blessing of the Advent wreaths that shocked the assembled community. At the beginning of the celebration, the local priest lost his nerve and rioted violently. Vicar General Erich Linhardt expressed great regret and apologized both for the incident and on behalf of the priest, who “obviously has completely lost control of himself.” The congregation will now be looked after by a team from the pastoral care room during this difficult time, while the priest will undergo lengthy medical treatment before returning to the parish if his health allows him to do so the “Krone” reported.

On the first Sunday of Advent, the day after the incident, a discussion with the congregation took place. Linhardt also announced that he would lead the Christmas service in Fischbach on Christmas Day. The incident has caused a wave of consternation among believers and, given the dramatic scenes, leaves a clear mark.
