Dramatic street fights in Vienna: Rivalry groups in action!

In the past few days, worrying incidents have occurred in Vienna, which ended in violent clashes between rival groups of men. On Sunday evening there was again a heavy brawl at the Meidling train station, in which several men were injured. According to information from Kurier.at , three men were injured by stab wounds and another by a head injury. These incidents are related to previously fought battles between groups that apparently come from Chechnya, Syria and Afghanistan.

The police reported an increased use and even used a helicopter after eyewitnesses had observed masked and armed people at the train station. The perpetrators who had appeared with knives, sticks and other weapons for the meeting fled into unknown directions after the attacks. The four injuries are currently regarded by the police as victims, but there is still no clear information on the motives of the disputes, but the police are investigating possible revenge acts between the groups, as ooe.orf reported.

Investigations and arrests

The investigation was intensified by the recent outbreaks of violence. Similar incidents have already occurred in the past, including an incident in the Anton-Kummerer Park, in which two young men were slightly injured by shots. The police conduct comprehensive surveys and trace evaluations to clarify the background of the conflicts. The investigators have made one step particularly by the arrest of a 29-year-old Chechens on Saturday, which is suspected of being involved.

While the security situation remains critical, the police have increased their presence at known hotspots in order to maintain public order. The incidents also take a highlight of the challenges in the containment of violence that are characterized by conflicts between different groups in Vienna.
