Drama in Vienna: Woman (36) arrested after knife attack on ex-partner!

On Friday evening there was a violent incident in Vienna-Landstrasse between a 36-year-old female and a 24-year-old male. The woman was temporarily arrested by police after a violent argument in her apartment. The 24-year-old, a Slovenian, visited his ex-partner unannounced and was found with serious injuries in the courtyard of the house.

The Vienna emergency services immediately took the seriously injured man to the hospital. According to initial investigations, the 36-year-old is said to have inflicted injuries on him with a sharp object, possibly a knife. When she arrived, the woman was uncooperative and gave contradictory information about the incident. She also had minor wounds on her hands, which she is said to have received from her ex-partner.

Unclear allegations and ban

The 36-year-old stated that the young man threatened her with a knife, although he himself denied this statement. Ultimately, the police issued a ban on entering and approaching the woman as well as a temporary ban on weapons. The 24-year-old was also reported. The investigations continue to be carried out by the Vienna State Criminal Police Office, Central East branch.

This confrontation sheds light on the often hidden but widespread acts of violence against women. Statistics show that gender-based violence against women occurs disproportionately often. A survey commissioned by Eurostat and the Federal Chancellery in 2021 shows the prevalence of gender-based violence both in intimate relationships and in other areas of life.

Social relevance

The results of the survey, which also cover topics such as stalking and sexual harassment in the workplace, are essential to raising awareness of the problem. The European Commission plans to take comprehensive action against gender-based violence as part of its “Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025”. The aim is to collect targeted data in order to better understand the problem and develop appropriate measures.

The Vienna-Landstrasse incident is another example of the challenges societies face when it comes to protecting women from violence. The ongoing investigation could reveal further details.
