Dispute in the National Council: ÖVP Kontra FPÖ in asylum chaos!
In today's National Council meeting there are heated debates about asylum policy and the situation in Syria. SPÖ club vice Philip Kucher calls for a careful handling of the situation and warns of premature conclusions. "We can all only hope for the best, but we are well advised to prepare well for all scenarios," said Kucher, before addressing the differences between the political parties. While the SPÖ wants to find solutions, according to Kucher, the FPÖ lives from the problems. He pays particular attention to the former Interior Minister Herbert Kickl, whose measures may appear in the staging, but failed to say in the practical solution, such as APA-OTS reported.
Another point of the discussion was Minister Gerhard Karner from the ÖVP, who praised the suspension of the processing of Syrian asylum applications after the Assad regime falls. The focus is now on an orderly return program that begins with voluntary return aids in Turkey. Karner reported that the number of illegal border crossings from 80,000 two years ago was reduced to just 4,500 this year. This happened in parallel to the closure of numerous asylum quarters. The FPÖ, on the other hand, criticizes the measures of the ÖVP as inadequate and demands stricter control of the asylum procedures. Hannes Amesbauer, security spokesman for the FPÖ, described Karner's representations as a "fairy tale lesson" and questions the current figures of the asylum applications. According to Amesbauer, the blue stands for zero immigration, while the ÖVP only implements "pseudo-measures". Kurier also reported that last Sunday 30,000 Syrians came together before the parliament.
