The initiative "16 days against violence against women" has again opened its gates to raise awareness of violence prevention. This campaign, which has been active since 1991 and was launched by the US “Center for Women’s Global Leadership”, runs annually from November 25th to December 10th. It now has an impressive range, with over 6,000 organizations in 187 countries that actively work for the fight against violence against women. Next year the focus topic "Every 10 Minutes, A Woman is Killed. #Noexcuse" and is intended to illustrate the urgency of the problem.
A central component of the campaign is the Austrian UN initiative "Orange the World", which was launched in 2015. As part of this campaign, the Federal Chancellery will shine in orange light to make the topic visible. On November 26, Minister of Women Susanne Raab (ÖVP) invites you to a violence summit that deals with the prevention of gender -specific violence.
Events in focus
Numerous events take place in Vienna to further deepen the topic. Next Wednesday, a workshop for violence against women will be offered in Penzing in cooperation with the Zara association. In Josefstadt, those present discuss the topic of "violence against women is also a male matter" on Tuesday, with strategies for the focus of violence. The Viennese adult education centers together with the Urania Kino present a new film festival entitled "Stand Up! Speak out!" From November 27th to 30th.
