Vienna relies on international LGBTIQ projects: funding pot 2025 revealed
Vienna is continuing its support for queer projects and plans to continue the so-called small project funding pot in 2025. According to a current announcement from the City of Vienna, the focus in the coming funding period will be placed increasingly on LGBTIQ projects that include supra-regional and international perspectives. This means that initiatives that address the challenges and issues of the LGBTIQ community in a global context will be particularly encouraged.
Since the funding pot was introduced in 2010, numerous projects have already received financial support. Vice Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr (Neos) explained that Vienna is recognized as an important rainbow city, and in order to further consolidate this role, an adjustment to the funding policy is necessary. A total of 23,000 euros is available for applications for 2025, and those interested can submit applications for funding until December 31st of this year.
Planned projects and requirements
The city has set clear criteria for funding. Projects that work against homophobia and help discriminated against groups within the LGBTIQ community are particularly eligible for funding. The maximum funding amount per project is 5,000 euros. There is also the possibility that larger initiatives can receive additional financial support during the upcoming Rainbow Month in June 2025, which can range between 1,000 and 15,000 euros.
The City of Vienna and the WASt-Vienna Anti-Discrimination Agency are jointly organizing this funding pot to give clubs and initiatives the opportunity to submit their concepts and event ideas for the Rainbow Month. Applications must be submitted online by January 31, 2025 at the latest. The content of the projects should address topics such as visibility, emancipation and equality, which expresses the city's commitment to the LGBTIQ community.
The so-called “Rainbow Month of June” has developed over the years into a real event that includes numerous events and activities related to the topic of LGBTIQ. This is thanks to the efforts of many committed associations, activists and the consistent funding policy of the City of Vienna. It will be exciting to see what creative and innovative ideas will be submitted for 2025 to further promote the visibility and rights of the queer community.

This step shows the City of Vienna's commitment to taking the needs of the queer community seriously and supporting them for the future.
