Expansion of the S80: Night traffic in Vienna improved from December

Vienna's transport policy has decided on a significant innovation for everyone using public transport at night. From December 15th, the S80 express train line will also run at night on weekends between Hütteldorf and Aspern Nord. This gives passengers the opportunity to rely on reliable transport in the evenings if there is increased demand.

With this measure, the Eastern Region Transport Association (VOR) is responding to recurring calls for better night traffic. The trains will run every 30 minutes, representing a significant improvement to the existing night public transport network.

Night traffic and measures for improvement

In addition to the expansion of the S80, two new early trains will be introduced between Vienna Central Station and Aspern Nord in both directions when the timetable changes on December 15th. This initiative aims to optimize morning commute and school traffic.

"With this capacity expansion on the S80, we will noticeably relieve the busy section between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Aspern Nord. This will result in a significant improvement in services, especially for students and commuters," said Public Transport City Councilor Peter Hanke (SPÖ). The additional connections promise to make everyday life easier for passengers and offer greater flexibility.

A plus point of this expansion is the consistent mobility solution created by the connection to the Vienna subway network. “We give passengers a comfortable and flexible option to travel safely through the night,” continued Hanke.

Many other improvements for night traffic between Vienna and Lower Austria are also being planned, which are to be implemented by autumn 2025. These advances are part of ongoing efforts to optimize public transport in the region and meet the needs of citizens. Further information can be found at www.meinkreis.at.
