Expansion of the S80: night traffic in Vienna from December

Viennese transport policy has decided to make a significant innovation for all use of public transport at night. From December 15th, the S80 express train line will also run between Hütteldorf and Aspern Nord at night. This gives passengers the opportunity to use reliable transport in the evening with increased need.

With this measure, the Verkehrsbund Ost-Region (before) reacts to recurring demands for better night traffic. The trains will drive every 30 minutes, which corresponds to a significant improvement in the existing network of night public transport.

night traffic and measures to improve

In addition to the expansion of the S80,

In both directions, two new early trains between Vienna Hauptbahnhof and Aspern Nord will be introduced in both directions. This initiative aims to optimize the morning vocational and school traffic.

"With this capacity expansion in the S80, we will noticeably relieve the highly frequented section between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Aspern Nord. Especially for students: Interior and commuters: Inside, this results in a significant improvement in the offer," said Public City Councilor Peter Hanke (SPÖ). The additional connections promise to facilitate everyday life of passengers and to offer greater flexibility.

A plus point of this expansion is the continuous mobility solution that arises from the connection to the Viennese subway network. "We give passengers a comfortable and flexible way to travel safely through the night," continued Hanke.

In the planning, there are also many further improvements for night traffic between Vienna and Lower Austria, which are to be implemented by autumn 2025. These progress is part of the ongoing efforts to optimize public transport in the region and to meet the needs of citizens. Further information is on www.meinbezirk.at zu find.
