In Linz, several people were slightly injured on Monday evening when a fire broke out in the basement of a residential building. At 9:15 p.m., a 43-year-old resident of the building noticed the smoke and immediately alerted the fire department.
The professional fire brigade was quickly deployed and immediately began extinguishing the fire. To ensure the safety of everyone involved, residents were evacuated from their homes. Thanks to a concession from the hotel owner, the evacuees were temporarily taken to a nearby hotel until the situation was under control.

The fire was under control by 9:30 p.m. and the fire department reported “fire out.” The source of the fire was in the basement of the house, which led to massive smoke development in the stairwell. This was mainly due to the fact that there were no doors in the basement that could contain the smoke. Nevertheless, the apartments remain habitable, as both experts from Linz AG Gas and the fire department confirmed.
This quick response by the fire department possibly prevented something worse from happening. Everyone in the home was safely evacuated and damage caused by the fire was determined to be limited. According to information, further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
