Evening children's tour of St. Stephen's Cathedral: discover traces of the founder
On Friday, November 8, 2024, there will be a special children's tour in St. Stephen's Cathedral, starting at 7:30 p.m. This evening event is aimed at families and especially younger visitors. A remarkable occasion is celebrated here: the birthday of Duke Rudolf IV, also known as “the founder”. He celebrated on November 1st. Due to his significant contributions to Austria's culture and education, such as the founding of the university and the construction of the impressive south tower of St. Stephen's Cathedral, his birthday will be honored this year with a unique tour.
The tour starts at the west gallery and leads to the ducal crypt. Here, the traces of the Duke in St. Stephen's Cathedral are explored, which is not only educational but also extremely entertaining for the little participants. The event is specifically designed for children ages 8 and up, although there will be separate groups for children and their companions. At the end of the tour, guests can expect a small refreshment in the cathedral sacristy, with the event expected to end at 9 p.m.
Registration and participation
Registration for the event is required and should be completed by Wednesday, November 6th. Those interested are asked to send their contact details, the age of the children and the number of participants to the email address “fenstergucker@gmx.at”. A voluntary donation to support the event will be gladly accepted at the end of the tour.
This event not only offers an opportunity to learn about the history of St. Stephen's Cathedral, but also to engage with the history of Austria in a playful way. It's a great way for families to experience something together while learning more about the roots of their cultural identity.
