Vienna celebrates: Open-air premiere of Indigo and the 23 Robbers”!

On Sunday evening, June 2nd, 2025, the premiere of the open-air operetta “Indigo and the 23 Robbers” took place in the Vienna City Park. Despite a brief rain shower, the open-air production celebrated a successful start, which was presented as part of the Johann Strauss 2025 festival year in cooperation with WIR SIND WIEN.FESTIVAL. The production, directed by Anna Bernreitner, is designed as a mobile musical theater format and focuses on power, illusory worlds and self-determination.

Raphael Schluesselberg took over the musical direction, while the arrangement was by Leonard Eröd. Participants such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Choir under Michael Grohotolsky provided an impressive performance. The furnishings were created by Katarina Ravlić. The cast includes talented artists, including Anita Rosati and Verena Tranker as Fantasca, as well as Lukas Karzel and Maximilian Müller as Janio. Alexander Kaimbacher and Franz Beltschmied embody Indigo, while Wolfgang Resch and Christoph Gerhardus are on stage as Ali Baba.

The operetta will be performed at a total of 23 venues in Vienna until June 23rd and admission is free. The tour plan for the next few days includes:

Celebrations in honor of Johann Strauss’ 200th birthday

The year 2025 is a very special one as it celebrates the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss. In this context, the City of Vienna is planning an extensive cultural program that includes 65 productions, three exhibitions and numerous additional events. These celebrations, which span various art forms, include classical concerts, theater performances and installations, among others. Of particular note are two events that take place on the Kaiserwiese in the Prater, including the performance of “Indigo and the 23 Robbers” and a Prater picnic by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
