Last weekend, two children discovered a conspicuous object using a metal detector at Hintersteinersee in Scheffau, Kufstein district. The approximately 60 centimeter long, “bomb-like” object was buried about half a meter deep. The alert children immediately informed the police of their discovery.
When officers arrived, they confirmed that it was indeed a World War II grenade. To ensure the safety of residents, the site was cordoned off over a large area. The demining service took care of the removal of the war relic. According to the police, there was never an immediate threat to human life or health.
