Veronika Marte will be the new club chairwoman of the Vorarlberg ÖVP state parliament club

Veronika Marte is appointed as the new club chairwoman of the Vorarlberg ÖVP state parliament club. This decision was made unanimously on Wednesday and she will replace Roland Breakfast. Breakfast had held the position since December 2011 and did not run for the state election in October.

Markus Wallner, the state party chairman, and Breakfast proposed Marte as the new club chairman. The official election as club chairwoman will take place at a club meeting before the constituent meeting of the Vorarlberg state parliament. Marte plans to introduce her deputy team at this meeting.

Veronika Marte, a trained elementary school teacher, worked for years at the special education center in Lauterach. She has been a member of the Bregenz city council since 2010 and a city councilor in the state capital since May 2016. In April 2019 she was sworn in as a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament.

In the previous legislative period, Marte was education spokesperson for her parliamentary group and deputy club chairwoman. Since 2017 she has also been one of three deputies for ÖVP federal party chairman Karl Nehammer. Marte is also the mother of a 10-year-old son.

The appointment of Veronika Marte as club chairwoman will bring significant changes to the Vorarlberg People's Party. It is expected that for the first time over 50 percent of female MPs will be represented in the club. This development underscores the advancing equality in the country's political landscape.
