14 years in prison for Vorarlberger after attempted murder of taxi drivers
A shocking incident recently shaken the Vorarlberg region: A 29-year-old was sentenced to 14 years in prison at the Feldkirch Regional Court for attempted murder. The man who started a taxi driver with a machete in November of last year stood in front of the jury and was found guilty with 6: 2 votes. However, the decision is not yet final.
The crime occurred on November 7th when the young man ordered a taxi in Schaan to go to Buchs. At the time of the crime, he had already consumed plenty of cocaine and drank three bottles of wine, which led to his strange behavior while driving. The taxi driver, a 46-year-old from Liechtenstein, noticed that the passenger was sweating heavily and expressed incompatible sentences while his pupils were wide.
the attack and its consequences
Arrived in the Buchs industrial area, the driver requested the payment of 92 euros for the trip. But instead of money, the accused pulled out an almost 50 centimeter long machete and attacked the taxi driver in the throat, face and upper body several times. The driver was able to escape with difficulty and ran down the street until a regular bus driver found him and alerted the emergency call. The 29-year-old fled into the taxi, which he turned into Feldkirch before he was undera-dived in his apartment. Two days later he was arrested by the Cobra special unit. At the negotiation it became clear that the taxi driver was seriously injured by the attacks and since then has lost 70 percent of eyesight in an eye. He also suffers from pain when swallowing and had to be operated on for several hours.
The negotiation was primarily about the question of the accused's accountability. The latter said that because of his drug and alcohol exposure, he could not remember the crime. His defenders argued that he was therefore not responsible. However, this perspective was considered not durable by the court psychiatrist Reinhard Haller; He explained that the man's accountability was restricted but not entirely excluded.
The court recognized, among other things, that it was an attempted murder, with the reasons for mitigation into account, such as the non -accompanying of the crime. On the other hand, the criminal record of the perpetrator and the use of a weapon increased the severity of the offense in the course of the crime. In addition, the accused was in the trial period. The injured party received a compensation of 5,000 euros.
