Danger of explosion in Bregenz: Family evacuates after fire in the basement

On the evening of November 6, 2024, a dramatic incident occurred in Bregenz's upper town. At 6:25 p.m., a resident of the house heard a series of loud explosion noises, which immediately alerted him. Intrigued, he noticed a lot of smoke coming from the cellar door. Immediately afterwards, the family decided to leave the building and called the fire department.

The Bregenz City Fire Department arrived shortly afterwards and immediately began extinguishing the fire. Wearing heavy breathing apparatus, firefighters went into the basement to tackle the cause of the fire, which was likely caused by power tool batteries connected to a charger. A technical defect apparently caused the batteries to explode loudly, which subsequently ignited nearby flammable objects. This situation led to an enormous amount of smoke, which quickly filled the entire stairwell of the apartment building.

Consequences for the residents

Due to the heavy smoke, the building is temporarily considered uninhabitable. Fortunately, the affected family of four was able to organize accommodation themselves. Nevertheless, the incident was not without consequences, as she was given first aid by the emergency services and taken to the Bregenz State Hospital for clarification.

The fire brigade was on site quickly and was able to initiate effective extinguishing measures before the fire could spread further. The drama that unfolded in this residential building highlights the potential dangers of a technical defect and the importance of acting quickly in critical situations.

As always, the emergency services were very professional and appeared to be well prepared for this emergency. It is hoped that such incidents can be avoided in the future through preventative measures. More information about this incident is available here www.fireworld.at available.
