Bregenz makes its way: new underpasses for more security
in Bregenz was a significant progress in the cooperation between the city and the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). After intensive negotiations, in which ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä and Mayor Michael Ritsch took part, they were able to agree on a concept to improve the rail infrastructure.
A central concern of this agreement is to improve mobility and safety of pedestrians and cyclists in the urban area. Among other things, the construction of new underpasses on Vorklostergasse and on the harbor forecourt are planned. These are intended to facilitate the transition to the tracks and end long waiting times in front of the barriers, which will improve the accessibility of the port area.
focus on the extension of the platform
Another crucial element of these plans is the extension of the platform at the Bregenz Hafen stop towards the main train station. This decision was made to protect a local recreation area around a pipeline. A new access with lifts is also created in order to make the tracks crossing the tracks safer for all users.
In the past few months, the Port stop has caused numerous discussions among the political representatives of the region. However, the agreement between the city and the ÖBB could help to solve some of these conflicts and to pave a clear way for future developments.
vision for a new train station
A timely implementation of a provisional at the Bregenz train station is also the focus of the agreements. This should serve as a replacement for the old station building at short notice, and the work for this is already in full swing. The installation of escalators and lifts is planned for next year.
In addition to these short -term measures, there is agreement among those involved that the long -term redesign of the train station and its environment should be tackled as soon as possible. These plans are considered important to improve the attractiveness and functionality of the traffic node.To evaluate the need for the port station and its effects on the residents and the cityscape, ÖBB has commissioned a comprehensive analysis. Currently over 4,000 passengers use the connections to the port station every day, which underlines the importance of this transport connection.
