New Galgentobel Bridge: Fast and safe access for Bludenz cyclists

Bludenzers can be happy: the new Galgentobel Bridge is here! After months of construction, a remarkable pedestrian and cycle path connection was recently opened. This approximately 55 meter long bridge is not just a practical remnant from the 1990s, but an important addition for anyone who wants to get into the city quickly and safely.

"For us as the city of Bludenz, this is an extremely important cycle connection. It is also part of the state cycle path network. The challenges in this project were not small. It's great that everything worked well and was completed in time for winter," said Mayor Simon Tschann with relief. Together with Joachim Weixlbaumer, chairman of the elevated committee, he reiterated the importance of this bridge for the region.

Construction and materials: A technically demanding task

The bridge was made from an impressive 100 tons of steel in three parts. Their construction required the utmost precision: millimeter work was essential when inserting them, which had already attracted a lot of attention in advance. The reinforced construction is a direct result of adjustments to current safety standards and traffic, as this bridge is part of the heavily used state cycle route. The total costs amounted to around two million euros, with the state of Vorarlberg and the federal government funding around 70 percent of this sum.

The architectural firm Marte & Marte designed the new bridge, while the technical implementation was supervised by M & G Ingenieure. What is particularly impressive is that a 250-ton mobile crane had to be used for installation in order to position the massive steel structure.

The official opening attracted numerous guests, including city councilor for finance Jimmy Heinzl and building authority manager Peter Mahner. At the same time, representatives of various departments from the state of Vorarlberg were present to document the important moment.

Another advantage of the Galgentobel Bridge is its width: it varies between 3.50 and 4.30 meters and thus enables a comfortable crossing for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

  • Spannweite: ca. 54 Meter
  • Brückenbreite: zwischen 3,50 und 4,30 Meter
  • Stahlgewicht: ca. 90 Tonnen
  • Einbautechnik: 250 Tonnen Mobilkran
  • Fundierung: ca. 20 Kleinbohrpfähle, bis 20 Meter tief

The new bridge is not only a technical masterpiece, but is also expected to enormously increase traffic safety for cyclists and pedestrians in Bludenz. For more information about the bridge and its significance visit the website: www.bludenz.at.
