Trump photo in the Epstein case: investigation or cover-up?

On December 22, 2025, the US Department of Justice announced that a previously removed photo of US President Donald Trump had been added to the Jeffrey Epstein case files. This image, showing an open drawer with a photo of Trump and several women, was released after no evidence was found to suggest that the photo depicted any of Epstein's victims. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the image's removal was due to concerns about the women depicted, but not about Trump himself. The photo was reposted online without any changes or redactions.

The publication comes in the context of the release of thousands of documents related to the Epstein case. This publication followed a law passed by Congress in November and was met with significant criticism. In particular, it denounced the extensive redactions in many of the published documents, which raised suspicions that information about Trump may have been withheld. Critics, including Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, called for a “full and comprehensive investigation” into the information released.

Political reactions and demands for transparency

The reaction to the publication was widespread. Politicians from both parties expressed concerns about possible cover-ups. Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, demanded answers about the removal of the photo and criticized the secrecy of certain information. “It is critical that the public has access to all relevant evidence,” Schumer emphasized. So far, the released documents have included numerous mentions of Bill Clinton, while Trump has received less attention in the documents, leading to further speculation.

However, Blanche pointed out that no files were altered to protect Trump and denied that there were any instructions on how to edit materials related to the Epstein scandal. The ambitious publication is intended to include a lot of often redacted information, with the redactions primarily intended to protect the victims' identities. Two US members of Congress are already working on a draft to force Attorney General Pam Bondi to disclose the remaining files.

Epstein case and public concern

The Epstein case has preoccupied the public for years, particularly because of the serious allegations against Epstein, who is said to have abused numerous girls and women. His involvement in US high society continues to raise questions. Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were friends in the 1990s and early 2000s before falling out in 2008 after Epstein was arrested. Trump has always denied knowing about Epstein's crimes and also denies having close ties to him.

The files that have now been published and the photo that has been made accessible again increase the pressure on the investigative authorities to create more transparency. While further file releases are announced, it remains to be seen how the debate about the links between high-ranking figures and the Epstein case will develop. The multifaceted reactions to the release clearly show that many citizens and politicians are determined to demand a full explanation of what happened.
