The extensive search use comprised up to 600 emergency services that combed a three -kilometer area around Weilburg. The Bundeswehr helped with the search measures with special pilots. Prime Minister Boris Rhein expressed his concern and thanked the numerous helpers who had participated in the search. The sympathy of the citizens in Weilburg was great, many put on colorful balloons to awaken Pawlos' attention.
Special features in the search for autistic children
Pawlos, who suffers from autism, represented a special challenge for the emergency services. Special educator Sarah Weber explained that autistic children perceive stimuli differently and are often tense in unknown situations. Therefore, she recommended that she did not use a loud calls during the search so as not to scare the boy and thus tighten his disoriented behavior. The police asked the population to choose the emergency call 110 when discovering Pawlos.
The emergency services also focused on water because many autistic children have a preference for this. Weber pointed out that it could be dangerous if Pawlos is near water, especially because he could become disoriented in such a situation. Music, which was known to Pawlos, and audio recordings of his mother were played by police cars to attract and find him.
A sad trend
The case is reminiscent of the fate of similar missing children as Arian from Lower Saxony, who disappeared in March 2024. In Germany, children have been increasingly reported in recent years about the missing person's cases of children with special support needs. The incident has again shown the challenges that appear in the search for autistic children. Rescue services are now increasingly relying on specialized search dogs and drones to increase the efficiency and safety of the search measures.
Studies on the clarification of the exact circumstances of Pawlos are still pending, but the tragedy of his fate has triggered a wave of solidarity and compassion within the community.
