Ambras Castle, considered the first museum in the world, was founded in the 16th century and is known for its impressive collections. During their visit, the presidents were guided through the historical collections of Archduke Ferdinand II, with the Chamber of Art and Curiosities and the Armory Chambers in the Ambraser Unterschloss particularly attracting their attention.
Cultural highlight in the Spanish Hall
The visit concluded with a musical performance by the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music in the Spanish Hall, which honored the cultural significance of the castle. This event highlighted the role of Ambras Castle as a place where history, art and diplomacy meet ots.at.
In addition to these high-profile visits, the castle is open to the public. It is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but remains closed in November. The entry price is €16 online and €18 at the on-site ticket office Schlossambras-innsbruck.at.
Accessibility and exhibitions
The majority of the exhibition rooms, the shop and the café are barrier-free accessible for visitors with limited mobility. However, historical building structures and monument protection restrict access to some areas, including the collection of Gothic sculptures and the Paradise Garden. The Spanish Hall and the foyer in particular can be reached via a stair lift. There are also barrier-free toilets in both the basement and the high castle museumsguide.net.
Ambras Castle not only offers impressive works of art, but also information in simple language and provides audio guides in several languages. For people with hearing impairments, information in sign language is available upon request, but there is currently a lack of offerings in Braille.
