On Sunday, a body was recovered by a police helicopter near the high mouth. This sad discovery happened as part of a search operation for a 21-year-old mountaineer who has been missing since Thursday. The search for the young man started after leaving the mountains to reach the summit. Together with a compatriot, he started on Thursday at the parking lot of the Rauthhütte. Because of the onset of snow, his companion returned, but the 21-year-old himself decided to continue. Around 3:40 p.m. he reached the summit and sent a voice email to his friend in the valley a few minutes later, in which he asked for help and announced that he had crashed about 100 meters and injured himself.

Difficulties in rescue

The mountain rescue Telfs immediately mobilized 27 members who made up for the scene of the accident. Despite all efforts, the first search had to be canceled at 9 p.m., since the weather conditions, especially strong weather changes and the darkness, endangered the rescue operation. The use of a police helicopter was also not possible because of the poor visibility and rough weather.

After the search was interrupted at night, the rescuers tried again on Friday to find the mountaineer. A lifeless person was finally discovered, but the search team was still in a dangerous location that made it impossible to get off to the body. Hot, difficult to overcome conditions by snow and fog, the rescuers kept at a distance and delayed the salvage.
