The path from engineer to baker: Torsten Scheer bakes with passion!

44-year-old Torsten Scheer took a bold step: after working as an engineer for over thirty years, he dedicated his life to baking and founded his own bakery “Dein Brot-Herd”. His transition to baking began when he began to feel unwell and decided to pursue his true passion. In a conversation with Today.at He said that he had enjoyed baking from an early age and that he appreciated his family's support. He started his new chapter with an investment of 30,000 euros in training and baking machines.

At “Dein Brot-Herd” Scheer focuses on quality and regionality. He sources his raw materials such as flour, eggs and vegetables from local suppliers and deliberately avoids chemical additives. This philosophy has not only earned him 250 loyal customers, but also a high demand for his specialties, which he only accepts by order via WhatsApp. Loud Small newspaper uses a WhatsApp group for more than 200 people to order their baked goods - an efficient solution that allows him to produce 600 to 800 items per week.

Baking to order and personal service

What's special about Scheer's approach is that he only bakes what is actually ordered to avoid food waste. His customers love a variety of products, including special breads for 8.50 euros and poppy seed rolls for 1.80 euros. If his customers don't use WhatsApp, Scheer will find a suitable solution for that too. With its two fixed pickup days, it allows customers to pick up their orders in Feldbach, Kirchberg, Weiz or Gleisdorf. The master baker is optimistic and even plans to offer baking courses in the future to share his knowledge with others.
