Artothek in Weiz: works of art to lend and discover!

In the Weberhaus Gallery in Weiz, the vernissage for the "Artothek" recently took place, a project that aims to make art accessible to a wider audience. Numerous interested parties and artists came together to obtain information about the concept and the exhibited works. The idea behind the artothek is to get pictures from depots and to present them to the public.

This project was inspired by the former Mayor of Vienna Helmut Zilk, who already showed numerous works of art in exhibitions during his term. This inspiration picked up Oswin Donnerer, cultural officer of the city of Weiz, about ten years ago and brought the concept to Styria. The goal is to show the beauty of the works of art and to promote interest in art.

30 different works of art were presented at the opening, including watercolors, linen cuts and acrylic images. Interested parties can visit the works of art by December 6th, after which they are available for a loan of eleven months. The rental fee is only 15 euros, which is considered very cheap. There are currently over 350 works in the depot and are waiting to be discovered by art lovers. Harald Polt from the city museum Weiz in cooperation with the city library is managed by Harald Polt.

The interest in the vernissage was overwhelming. The first reservations for the upcoming annual rental could be made during the opening ceremony. The guests included prominent personalities such as the former mayor Erwin Eggenreich, architect Elmar Hauser and the artist Sabine Schilcher-Oasen, who had come from Graz. They were enthusiastic about the exhibited works by artists such as Walter Kratner and Cristina Mavaraccio.

Introductory words about the event, the organizers Oswin Donnerer and Georg Gratzer spoke, while some of the artists such as Johann Pötz, Dorothea Nell and Anna Jenner took the opportunity to exchange ideas with the guests and present their works.

In addition to the artothek, there have been several other exhibitions in Weiz over the course of the "Art Goes Weiz" exhibition of the art school or the international art exhibition Euro Vistas. The promotion of art and culture in the region is at the top of the agenda of the organizers, who continue to revive the art scene using such event formats.

The artotheque not only opens up one way to make art accessible to everyone, but also strengthens cultural life in Weiz. A beautiful place to experience art, enjoy and borrow.
