Deployment of the FF Mooskirchen: Exercise after a real traffic accident
Last weekend, the Mooskirchen fire department experienced an unforeseen emergency that brought forward the planned end-of-year exercise. A serious traffic accident with people trapped on Mooskirchnerstrasse required immediate action. This unexpected situation put the emergency services, who were alerted at 2:30 p.m., in top gear while providing assistance in Gießenberg. The rescue helicopter was also in action and highlighted the urgency of the situation.
After the rescue was successful, the emergency services returned to the armory to prepare for the end-of-year exercise that had already been planned. This took place on the Pölzl Reisen premises in the Mooskirchen business park. With ABI Josef Pirstinger and OBI Philipp Müller at the helm, the firefighters were trained in two scenarios that revolved around technical operations.
Training scenarios and operational techniques
The exercise included scenarios in which “accidents” had to be rescued at risk of injury. In the first scenario, two mannequins were trapped under a truck while changing tires. Here access was particularly limited, which intensified the challenge. The Heavy Rescue system, which is specifically designed to handle heavy loads, was used. Hydraulic rescue supports were used to gradually raise the rear of the truck, while pneumatic supports provided support to keep the load stable. This technique made it possible to gain access to the trapped people.
In the second scenario, which was particularly exciting, the emergency services had to rescue two injured people from an overturned car on the passenger side. First, the vehicle was stabilized to prevent it from tipping over further. The “inner rescuer” then enabled access to those affected by opening the roof of the vehicle. This method ensured that the injured could be transported gently and in line with the axles. The paramedics were on constant call throughout the entire process.
Positive feedback and outlook
Mayor Engelbert Huber, who followed the exercise as an observer, was impressed by the fire department's performance. The new members who were taken into active service this year were also able to gain important practical experience. This hands-on opportunity not only strengthens troop cohesion, but also the knowledge and skills needed to respond to emergencies.
This year marked an impressive chapter for the Mooskirchen Fire Department, filled with various demanding tasks. The end-of-year exercise was recently overshadowed by excitement and provided a platform for responders to demonstrate and develop their skills. The experiences help to further improve operational preparation for future emergencies. Further information about the operation can be found in a detailed report on www.meinkreis.at be found.
