Commander's Day 2024: A symbol of fire brigade camaraderie in Leibnitz

Over 130 fellow firefighters from the Leibnitz Fire Department Association recently met in the Straß Cultural Hall to take part in the Commander's Day 2024. This important event was organized by the Field Volunteer Fire Department, which had a dedicated team that looked after the well-being of those present.

The focus was on the area fire brigade commander LFR Josef Krenn and his deputy BR Fritz Partl, who praised the impressive commitment of the participating fire departments. Krenn particularly emphasized the excellent camaraderie among the firefighters and recognized those who regularly take part in competitions and performance tests. He also highlighted the importance of the youth fire brigade, whose basic training consists of basic training 1, basic training 2 and basic radio training.

Important exercises in 2024

One of the central events this year was the disaster relief service exercise (KHD exercise 2024), which took place in western Styria. 400 emergency services with around 100 vehicles practiced in order to be better prepared for possible disasters. However, another important training project is still to come: the international exercise “Modul Exercise 2024”, which will take place from November 18th to 21st, 2024 in the greater Leibnitz and Graz area. During this exercise, various scenarios such as floods, earthquakes and forest fires are played out. Participating fire departments include the Wildon, Lebring, St. Georgen an der Stiefing, Neudorf an der Mur, Wagna, Seggauberg and Tillmitsch fire departments, and BR Fritz Partl emphasizes that they are well prepared for this challenge.

Towards the end of the event, the outgoing district captain Manfred Walch was given a dignified farewell and honored for his services. Numerous guests of honor were also present, including the mayor of Straß, Hans Lappi, and the State Office for Fire Prevention in Styria, BR d. F. Herbert Hasenbichler, and the state fire brigade deputy LBDS Christian Leitgeb. Gregor Waltl from ORF hosted the evening.

This meeting impressively shows the cohesion and professionalism within the Leibnitz Fire Department Association. The commitment of the firefighters is crucial for the safety of the region, as they serve the public free of charge.
