Vienna Pride changes program: solidarity with victims from Graz

On June 11, 2025, Vienna Pride changed its program as a sign of solidarity and remembrance of the victims of a tragic shooting spree in Graz. In this incident, which took place in a school two days ago, a total of ten people were killed, including six girls and three boys aged 14 to 17, as well as a seriously injured teacher who died in hospital. The perpetrator, a 21-year-old Austrian, committed suicide after the rampage. Authorities found a shotgun and a handgun at the scene.

In response to these events, Vienna Pride, whose organizers represent the LGBTQ+ community, has decided to kick off the event on June 12th without music. Instead of a festive atmosphere with DJ sets, the Pride Village will become a quiet and dignified place where flowers are laid and eulogies are given. HOSI Vienna in particular expressed sympathy for those affected and their relatives.

Program changes to commemorate

Highlighted programming changes for the Pride Village opening include:

• Datum: 12. Juni, 19 Uhr
• Inhalt: Trauerreden und gemeinsames Entzünden eines Lichtermeers um 21 Uhr
• Alkoholfreie Getränke: Am ersten Tag wird auf Spirituosen verzichtet; es gibt alkoholfreie Getränke, Bier, Spritzer und Speisen.

The amended program also includes various activities:

• 13:00 – 15:00: Anfertigung des Trauerbanners für die Parade (Hall of Pride)
• 15:00 – 17:00: Workshop des Klagsverbandes gegen Diskriminierung und Ausgrenzung
• 15:00 – 20:00: Kostenlose HIV- und STI-Testungen im Aids Hilfe Wien Zelt
• 17:00 – 19:00: Fortsetzung der Anfertigung des Trauerbanners
• 19:00 – 20:00: offizielle Eröffnung mit Trauerreden
• 21:00 – 22:00: Lichtermeer mit Kerzen, die mitgebracht werden können.

Venue and children's program

The Pride Village is designed as a space of peace and contemplation. There is also a children's and youth program that is also tailored to the changing circumstances:

• 13:00 – 15:00: Buttons und Tattoos
• 15:00 – 17:00: Kinderschminken
• 16:00: Zaubershow

Additional offers are available for young people aged 12 to 27, including a voguing workshop.

While Vienna Pride celebrates diversity in a creative and peaceful way, in Graz the memory of the victims of the shooting spree is being brought to the fore. This is done in an effort to show strength together and send a message of solidarity to the community.
