New timetable 2025: Direct connections for Graz and Klagenfurt!

On December 15, 2024, the new train timetable of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) will come into force across Europe, and there will be some significant changes ahead. As the ÖBB announced on Wednesday, minor improvements are planned in local transport in the eastern region and in Tyrol, which are intended to optimize the travel experience for commuters and travelers. Particularly noteworthy is the introduction of a new night S-Bahn on line S80 between Vienna Hütteldorf and Vienna Aspern Nord, which runs every 30 minutes on weekends and the nights before public holidays. In addition, the route between Vienna Central Station and Vienna Aspern Nord will be supplemented by two additional early trains. The regional express REX8 will also be accelerated, while in Tyrolean local transport the regional express between Innsbruck and Ötztal train station will run every half hour in the future.

The most important update, however, is not expected until December 2025 with the opening of the Koralm Tunnel. This tunnel will create a direct connection between Graz and Klagenfurt and significantly improve connections in the south of Austria. From 2025, ÖBB will offer around 4,600 local and regional trains as well as 340 long-distance connections every day, which will remain almost the same compared to 2024. These steps demonstrate ÖBB's commitment to continually improving public transport in Austria. As reported, the coming years will be characterized by the expansion and optimization of rail transport.[noen.at] .

The further adjustment of capacities in Tyrol, such as increasing the frequency on the S3 Innsbruck-Brenner and improved connections to Imst, also aim to better meet the needs of passengers. The upcoming changes could provide relief for many. A significant change is expected on December 15, 2024, when the new timetables come into force and local transport in the eastern region and in Tyrol is upgraded. As vor.at reports, these new changes from ÖBB will also increase planning security for travelers.
