Moped accident in Leibnitz: 17-year-old fights for his life!

In a dramatic traffic accident on the night of December 4th, 2024, a 17-year-old moped driver from the Leibnitz district and a 36-year-old Hungarian woman who was driving her car were seriously injured. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Eckbergstrasse (L632), where the driver was apparently driving at excessive speed in the same direction as the moped driver. In a violent collision, their vehicle hit the rear of the moped, causing the teenager to fall and sustain serious injuries. He had to be taken to the LKH Graz immediately, while the woman simply drove on after the accident until she parked her car in a parking lot a few hundred meters later.

A breathtaking fact: After the accident, an alcohol test was carried out on the woman, which came back positive. Such incidents once again show the dangers of drunk drivers and emphasize the importance of traffic rules as described by the ADAC. ADAC.de explains that drivers should remain calm when meeting the police and what rights and responsibilities they have to avoid conflict.

Rights of drivers

Certain things must be taken into account during police checks: Police officers are not allowed to carry out searches without a corresponding warrant and there is no obligation to comment on questions that go beyond personal details. However, proof of a driver's license and driver's license are mandatory, in accordance with Section 31b of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO). If you fail to do this, you may be fined. It is equally important to know that drivers cannot be forced to agree to a breathalyzer test. If you refuse to do so, the police can order a blood test if you suspect you were under the influence of alcohol. This highlights the need to always be cautious and aware of one's rights in order not to get into unnecessary trouble.
