Double shot out of jealousy: Graz man in court after arrow attack!
A 38-year-old man from Graz will stand trial next week for the attempted murder of his 42-year-old partner. Loud Cosmo The man is said to have tried to kill the woman with a sports bow. The incident occurred in September when both had only been dating for about ten days and were active in the drug scene. Tensions arose in the relationship because of his jealousy, which apparently led to the violent incident.
On the night of the attack, the man and woman consumed drugs in the apartment of a friend of the accused. After one to two hours of sleep, the man woke up, consumed more drugs and began cleaning his sports bow. As part of this preparation, he pointed the gun at his sleeping partner and fired. The first arrow hit her in the kidney area and caused her life-threatening injuries. When the woman awoke from the pain, he fired a second arrow that grazed her shoulder and pierced her head.
Escape and arrest
After the crime, the man fled and locked the room, left the apartment with an acquaintance and claimed that he had not noticed anything about the incident. He continued his escape to southern Styria in his car. Despite the arrow in her cheek, the seriously injured woman was able to call 911. Rescue workers had difficulty pinpointing her location but were eventually able to reach her and describe the woman's survival as almost miraculous.
The wanted man had an accident in southern Styria, where he received help from a farmer and the ÖAMTC. They immediately informed the police. A police helicopter was able to locate his vehicle. However, the man showed no willingness to surrender and opened fire on the emergency services with a blank pistol and a shotgun. In the ensuing altercation he was injured by police, but refused medical attention before he could be rescued.
Violence in the drug environment
Although the defendant admitted shooting the woman, he denied any intention to kill. The trial begins on Tuesday and continues on Thursday. The case is linked to a worrying increase in violent crimes in Graz, which are often linked to drug use. Experts criticize the increased risk of escalating violence in the urban drug environment and call for specialized assistance and effective prevention programs.
How Addiction.de explains, there is a close connection between substance use and violent behavior. Drug and alcohol use significantly increases the risk of hyperaggressive behavior. Polyvalent consumption of substances such as alcohol and cocaine is particularly dangerous. In view of this, the need for preventive measures and therapies for violent addicts is becoming increasingly urgent.
The experts emphasize that programs for the prevention and intervention of substance-related violence, such as TAVIM, should be more firmly anchored in the treatment system in order to meet these challenges.
