The first performance will be broadcast live at 10:50 p.m. on ORF 1, with an advance broadcast on ORF ON.
Espionage allegations and political entanglements
In the meantime, Austrian politics is simmering around serious allegations of espionage. The former general secretary of the Austrian-Russian Friendship Society, Florian Stermann, was questioned about his connections to Johann Gudenus and the controversial figure of Vladimir Marsalek. In a witness interview, Stermann admitted that he had only forwarded messages, but it was not proven that all the information actually came from Marsalek orf.at reported. These new details come from chats seized as part of the Ibiza scandal investigation and shed new light on the complicated relationship between politics and potential Russian influence operations.
In addition to allegations involving espionage and leaking state secrets to Russia, then-Interior Minister Herbert Kickl was criticized for his role in the crisis. Minister Gerhard Karner called for a complete investigation and emphasized the urgency of expanding the powers of the investigative authorities. Political tensions are rising as the National Security Council has been convened to discuss the sensitive issues and take further steps.
