19-year-old races through Graz at 122 km/h: driver's license gone!
On Saturday afternoon, a 19-year-old driver was stopped in Graz by a civil patrol from the state traffic department. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Triester Street, where the young man was traveling at a frightening 122 km/h, even though the speed limit is only 50 km/h. The police speedometer recorded the dangerous speed limit ORF Styria reported.
The surprisingly brazen driver tried to justify his behavior with an “emergency” and claimed that he was only driving 80 km/h. However, this did not change the fact that his driver's license was immediately and temporarily taken away. Police filed a complaint against him as the incident draws increasing attention to dangerous driving. This wasn't the only incident this weekend, as a 16-year-old also sped away from the police in a stolen car in Villach. Further information on this incident can be found at Small newspaper.
Dangerous speed on the streets
The incident highlights the urgency of road safety measures. While the 19-year-old in Graz significantly increased the risk for himself and other road users with his rapid driving, other young people like the one in Villach show that dangerous driving is practiced by a worrying number of young drivers. In recent weeks, authorities have repeatedly warned about the dangers of speeding.
