Serious traffic accident on B20: 17-year-old after crash in a coma

A serious traffic accident occurred on Monday morning on the B20 in the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district, closer to Mariazell. Four people were injured in the frontal collision, including a 17-year-old novice driver from the Amstetten district, which is currently in a critical condition.

The tragic events started around 6:20 a.m. when the 17-year-old was traveling with a passenger of the same age on the B20 towards Bruck on the Mur. For unknown reasons, they suddenly fell on the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming small truck, which was controlled by a 52-year-old driver from the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district.

The Gollrad fire brigade and the Mariazell fire brigade were immediately on site to free the seriously injured young person from the completely destroyed vehicle. The ambulance service put him in an artificial deep sleep before being flown to the University Hospital in Wiener Neustadt with the emergency medical helicopter Christophorus 3.

The other two inmates of the vehicle, a 17-year-old passenger as well as the 52-year-old truck driver and his 25-year-old passenger were brought to the state hospital in Hochsteiermark with minor injuries.

The accident caused the B20 to be closed between 6:20 and 7:30 a.m., which led to significant traffic disruptions. The search for the cause of the accident is currently being investigated by the responsible authorities.
