This is how the emergency exit manages from a falling car - experts warn!

Accidents with falling vehicles can have dramatic consequences. Tests of the ÖAMTC have shown how cars behave in the water and what options there are for an emergency exit. The aim of these investigations was to determine the remaining time until the full immersion and to illuminate the functionality of the exit options under real conditions. In test scenarios with an electric vehicle and an combustion engine, various aspects of sinking, the door mechanisms and the on -board electronics of experts were analyzed. It was found that both vehicle types show a similar behavior in sinking, but the combustion vehicle has a greater tilt of tilting. The tests made it clear that the doors can hardly be opened shortly after watering. At the beginning, however, there is a short time window in which there is the possibility to open the side windows before the on -board electronics fail. These findings are crucial, since in modern cars, composite glass is often installed on the sides, which is difficult to break through, and thus the curse options are severely restricted.

Important knowledge of the emergency exit

experts see an emergency exit from a falling vehicle as highly critical. According to Robert Kolerovic from the ÖAMTC, a car does not fall immediately, but it becomes dangerous after the first minute. The average time until a vehicle is completely under water is three to four minutes. It is therefore crucial that the occupants react as soon as possible. To ensure the greatest possible security, the windows should be opened quickly before the on -board electronics fail.
In addition, it was found that special tools such as emergency hammers and spring grains, which are equipped with belt cutters, are required to reliably break through the hardened safety glass panes, even under water. These tools should therefore belong to the safety equipment of each vehicle, in addition to a warning triangle and a first aid set.

A correct procedure in an emergency is essential. All passengers should snap off immediately and open the windows to leave the vehicle within the first minute. Preparing for such emergencies can be crucial: it is recommended to check the vehicle's rescue card and to find out which type of side windows are installed. Practicing the exit through the car windows in dry, especially with children, can also be life -saving.
In many traffic situations, it is essential to pay attention to possible escape routes. Above all, to flooded roads and blocked areas should be avoided.

traffic safety measures

To avoid accidents, it is important to always drive safely and pay attention to the traffic situation. The traffic can suddenly stall on highways, which leads to uncertain situations. For this reason, it is crucial to reduce the speed in time, to keep enough distance and to use warning indicators. In addition, drivers should observe the traffic situation behind their vehicle and be prepared to recognize and react emergency situations.

Security officers should offer training courses to bring drivers closer to the correct braking routes and response times at various speeds. These training courses help to increase the safety level in road traffic sustainably.
Action days for traffic safety and regular training, which include ECO Safety, for example, can also help to raise awareness of such emergencies and to improve the skills in road traffic.
