Schwarzach shocked: Drivers seriously hit pedestrians!

On April 21, 2025, at 8:38 a.m., a serious traffic accident occurred in a densely populated residential area in Schwarzach, in which two pedestrians were seriously injured. According to a report by vol.at, an 86-year-old driver who was traveling with his wife was involved in the incident on Kellawegstrasse. The driver lost control of his vehicle after a long left turn, which led to the tragic accident.

The two injured pedestrians, an approximately 55-year-old couple, were immediately flown in two helicopters to the Feldkirch State Hospital and the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital after the accident. Fortunately, the driver and his passenger were uninjured and an alcohol test carried out gave a negative result. The police then initiated an investigation into the exact cause of the accident and secured evidence on site.

Deployment of rescue workers

The rescue workers, consisting of around 35 firefighters from the Schwarzach and Wolfurt fire departments, were deployed with seven vehicles. Five emergency services vehicles were at the scene along with 15 paramedics and four emergency doctors. For the safety of residents, the hillside alley was closed until around 10:30 a.m. while rescue and cleanup work was carried out.

The driver's vehicle eventually came to a stop on a garden wall, which prevented major damage to adjacent buildings. The police also called in a traffic expert to carry out further analyzes of the accident.
