On April 21, 2025, a serious accident occurred late in the afternoon on the Arlberg Expressway (S16) at road kilometer 59.55. A single vehicle, driven by a 29-year-old woman from Tyrol, left the road for unknown reasons. The car went onto the grass shoulder and hit a concrete barrier head-on, sending it into the air. Eventually the vehicle came to a stop with its wheels on the road. The car was totaled.
In addition to the driver, her husband and a 1.5-year-old child were in the car. All three people were injured to an unspecified degree and had to be taken by ambulance to the Feldkirch State Hospital. An alcohol test on the driver gave a negative result, indicating that she was sober at the time of the accident. The incident shocked not only those affected but also the local community.
