Autumn holidays: traffic jam warnings and travel traffic in Bavaria and Salzburg
Autumn holidays begin in Austria, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg! Find out where the traffic jam hotspots are and how you can avoid delays on the A10 and popular excursion routes.
Autumn holidays: traffic jam warnings and travel traffic in Bavaria and Salzburg
The impending start of the autumn holidays will bring with it a significant increase in travel not only in Austria, but also in the neighboring federal states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The traffic experts from ÖAMTC and Ö3 expect that the main traffic routes in particular will be heavily frequented. The popular excursion destinations in particular are likely to be well attended on the weekend.
Among the main roads, the Tauernautobahn (A10) in Salzburg is once again becoming one of the central traffic jam hotspots. The single-lane construction site area between Golling andwerfen means that, in addition to the already high traffic load, travelers also have to expect longer waiting times. The experts recommend avoiding the construction site to avoid lengthy delays. There were already departures in the larger cities on Thursday afternoon, which put additional strain on traffic.
Increased excursion traffic
Saturday is expected to be the busiest travel day of the weekend. Particular attention should be paid to the roads in Salzburg and the neighboring regions of North and South Tyrol, as these attract a large number of day trippers when the weather is right. The beautiful Salzkammergut will also be a popular destination again.
Delays are to be expected on the following routes:
- Salzkammergut Straße (B145) zwischen Gmunden und Bad Ischl
- Attersee und Seeleitenstraße (B151 und B152) zwischen Seewalchen und Unterach sowie zwischen Schörfling und Weißenbach
- Wolfgangseestraße (B158) zwischen Salzburg und Bad Ischl
Although Sunday could be a little quieter compared to Saturday, drivers should also expect traffic jams on the routes mentioned.
Impairments in rail traffic
Another interesting point is the closure of the railway line in Deutsches Eck, which comes into force from October 25th to November 4th. This measure means that ÖBB's long-distance traffic has to be rerouted. In addition, buses will be used in rail replacement services, which is expected to lead to additional traffic on the roads. Traffic experts predict that more cars will be on the road as a result.
