Riskewolf in East Tyrol: Law order regulation according to several risks events!
St. Veit in Defereggen, Österreich - The Tyrolean state government issued a shooting regulation for a risk wolf in the Lienz district on April 30, 2025. This measure became necessary after several risk events were documented in the immediate vicinity of settlements in the municipal area of St. Veit in Defereggen. The regulation came into force on the night of May 1, 2025 and applies to a period of eight weeks. The hunters were informed immediately and acted according to the regulation.
In the days 8th, 11th and 19th of April 2025, several cracks were found in which a killed sheep as well as an injured sheep and two dead lambs were identified. In addition, two lambs and a e -vigor were reported as a degree. The investigation showed that the DNA of a wolf could be detected by swab samples. This indicates the participation of the animal in the risks events that occurred in the immediate vicinity of the settlements.
need for action due to riser events
Deputy Governor Josef Geisler clearly spoke out for the need for immediate action, based on the reports on the risks. He thanked the East Tyrolean hunters for their quick reaction and underlined that the wolf in this region has lost its shyness to people. This could potentially be a risk of security. It is therefore important to the authorities that the population reports sightings and observations via a viewing form to keep the situation under control.
In addition, the importance of a responsible wolf management is pointed out to minimize conflicts between humans and animals. Information on the topic is available on platforms such as the WWF at WWF that offer further insights into wolf management and its challenges.
The animal body of the wolfed wolf is brought to the AGES (agency for health and nutritional certainty) in Innsbruck. This step makes sense to draw further conclusions about the health of the animal and possible transmissions of diseases to farm animals.
With this procedure, the Tyrolean state government pursues the goal of not only guaranteeing the safety of the population, but also to maintain the well-being of utility and wild animals in the region. The current situation once again shows how important a dialogue is between nature conservation, agriculture and the population. For further information on the current developments and measures, interested citizens can report the reports on OE24 and Tirol.gv.at
