Government faces the challenges: the focus!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - on Sunday, March 9, 2025, the ORF parliamentary magazine "Hohes Haus" by Rebekka Salzer is moderated, which has played a central role in political reporting since 2019. In this issue, the new government, consisting of ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos, will present its plans to the National Council. Chancellor Christian Stocker from the ÖVP and Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler from the SPÖ and Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger from the NEOS will present the upcoming changes and an important amendment to the Federal Ministry Act, which is necessary due to the new interpretation of departmental entanglements. The debate is expected to be heated, as the opposition will speak sharply in order to counter the coalition.
The controversial topic of pension reform is particularly important. Around two million senior citizens aged 65 and over live in Austria, and the political parties are under pressure not to send themselves with this important group of voters. This year, the state has to spend around 30 billion euros on the guest houses, which makes up almost a quarter of the deficient federal budget. By 2027, this sum could increase to over 35 billion euros. This is a large test stone for the triple coalition that must discuss measures to reduce costs.
