Austria's reform partnership: departure to a slim state!

On Monday, July 21, 2025, the first official meeting of the working group "Constitutional and Administrative Consumeration" took place in the Federal Chancellery in Austria as part of the Austria reform partnership. The reform partnership, which was launched in June 2025, has set itself the goal of creating a slim and efficient state in order to meet the social and economic challenges in Austria. The partnership comprises four central themed blocks: constitutional and administrative adjustment, energy, education and health. The responsible state secretary for the constitutional and administrative cleansing, Alexander Pröll, gave an overview of the main goals of the working group.

The central goals of the working group include the reduction of double -tracks in the administration and the tightening of the legal framework. In addition, the future viability of the public service is to be secured. Alexander Pröll and his colleagues plan specific measures such as a turbo for approval procedures, the dismantling of unnecessary bureaucracy and a uniform digitization of all administrative levels. These steps are part of a comprehensive reform strategy that aims to increase the efficiency of the administration, which is particularly important in today's fast -moving times. According to [zur-ache.at] (https://zursache.at/news/bund-laender-und-gemeinden-starten-starten-mumfassende reform partnership/), the reforms are to be implemented by the end of 2026.

political support and goals

The reform partnership is supported by members of the Federal Government as well as governmental and president of the Association of Cities and Community. The reform process is designed not only to optimize the administration, but also to reform the basic structures in the energy sector, in the field of education and in healthcare. Wifo indicates that despite the need for reforms in many areas, there are often resistance in politics and bureaucracy that can slow the implementation.

In the areas of health and education, extensive reforms have also been announced that are intended to promote equality of opportunities and performance. The focus is on school autonomy and digitization in the education sector as well as improved patient steering in healthcare. An important goal is to meet personnel and cost dynamics.

outlook for the reform processes

The working group has set a clear project structure in which the results of the reform process should flow into. As early as September 2025, further work phases are planned that concentrate on legal cleanup and the creation of barrier -free digital services. Difficulties that may arise from political-institutional and economic factors have also been discussed to optimize the reform strategy and promote acceptance.

The reform process is a complex undertaking, which is considered necessary, however, to meet the growing requirements of a modern society. The focus on digitization and efficiency is of great importance to prepare Austria for the challenges of the future.
