Heidelberg Volunteer Days 2024: Record participation and diverse projects

The 2024 Volunteer Days in Heidelberg set standards because they set new records with around 450 helpers and around 50 projects. These important days took place for the ninth time in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region from September 21st to 30th. This year the volunteer days were extended to ten days, which gave those involved even more opportunity to get involved in charitable work.

The range of projects was impressive: volunteers beautified social facilities, helped with autumn cleaning in the forest on the Königstuhl, looked after gardens in daycare centers and museums and donated cakes to senior centers. Particularly noteworthy are the initiatives to promote inclusion and accessibility, which attracted great interest from many volunteers.

Active participation of the mayor

Mayor Eckart Würzner, who was involved in the youth center in the Rohrbach district, was particularly active. There he worked shoulder to shoulder with other volunteers and cleared the apple orchard of annoying blackberry hedges. Such missions show how important the support of city leaders is for volunteer work and motivate many citizens to get involved too.

The organization of the volunteer days is the responsibility of the Heidelberg Volunteer Agency in cooperation with the city administration. Committed people have now increased significantly.

The volunteer days are held every two years and are known as a central day of volunteering in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. Under the motto “We get things done”, the volunteers implement a variety of projects, ranging from craft activities to social campaigns.
