Professional orientation in schools: key to training success in the district
In a recent meeting of the IHK Regional Committee for the Pfaffenhofen district, local business representatives emphasized how crucial the role of schools is for the recruitment of new trainees. Eduard Kastner, the chairman of the committee, emphasized: "We only win new trainees with schools and at schools." His appeal is a sign of the need to intensify professional orientation in schools.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) has developed various measures in cooperation with the local company for structural development in the district (KUS) to make dual training for schoolchildren better known. This can also be found as part of events such as the training fair "Ihkjobfit!" in Ingolstadt. At the meeting, Kus boss Johannes Hofner and Catherine Schrenk from the IHK office presented some of these initiatives.
professional orientation: an urgent need
As a decisive aid for professional orientation, Hofner presented the "training compass", which presented around 180 companies and 128 professions. 3,500 copies of the catalog are distributed at 21 schools to provide the students and their families an overview of the training opportunities in the region. The response to this is consistently positive.
Veronika Müller, HR manager at the IT company "Prosis", pointed out the challenges of trainee recruiting. "Trainees are highly competitive," says Müller, and many applications do not meet the necessary standards. An frequent problem is an inadequate preparation of the students for interviews or a lack of internships that could offer practical insights into the professional world.
The entrepreneurs agree: the current professional orientation in schools is inadequate. Eduard Kastner demanded more time and content for professional orientation in the school plans. In addition, real trainees should come to schools as "IHK training scouts" and report on their experiences.
Beate Kempf, entrepreneur from Rohrbach, suggested that the internship week in the ninth grade to be shared so that students could get to know several companies. This idea found a lot of encouragement among those present.
Kastner also asked about the commitment of politics to improve professional orientation in schools: "This must be better recognized. Teachers should recognize the importance of their role as an impetus for dual training." This includes initiatives that help teachers get to know the training opportunities of the companies better.
Another topic at the session was a position paper on mobility in the district, which deals with influential points for the connection and the needs of the trainees. The need to improve public transport is a central aspect, since many trainees are dependent on them, especially in rural areas.
The IHK emphasizes the need for better networking of the traffic offers and also demands measures to reduce bureaucracy in this sector. Kastner summarizes: "When it comes to the mobility of people and business, bureaucracy reduction in this area must be viewed closely." He questions the existing regulatory systems that often restrict the company's ability to act.
The results of this session illustrate how important the cooperation between schools, teachers and the economy is in order to make dual training more attractive and to counteract the challenges of the labor market.
