Head-on collision in Perg: Three injured and drunkenness found!

On the night of June 8, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred at 11:40 p.m. on the B3 in the municipality of Perg, Upper Austria. Two cars collided head-on, although the exact cause of the collision remains unclear. The accident resulted in injuries to three passengers, who were taken to hospital after receiving first aid. The Perg and Naarn fire departments were alerted and secured the scene of the accident, while the B3 was completely closed during the emergency measures, reported Fireworld.

The two people in the vehicles, a 31-year-old driver from the Perg district and a 31-year-old driver from the Vöcklabruck district, as well as a 31-year-old passenger from Wels, suffered injuries of an unspecified degree. The driver was also found to be under the influence of alcohol. However, the breathalyzer test could not be carried out due to the circumstances; Instead, the Linz public prosecutor ordered a blood sample to be secured.

Drunk driving

Drunk driving is a recurring problem that carries serious consequences. The Board of Trustees for Road Safety found that the highest proportion of alcohol-related accidents in the last 30 years was recorded in the first quarter of 2022. 8.5% of all personal injury accidents were caused by alcohol. Around 2,300 alcohol-related accidents occur every year, in which more than 2,900 people are injured and around 31 people are killed. Experts warn that the number of these accidents increases, especially in summer. The KFV constantly appeals to road users to take personal responsibility in order to prevent accidents, as stated in a report by the Board of Trustees for Road Safety explained.

The dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol should not be underestimated. Even small amounts of alcohol can significantly impair your ability to think and react. It is therefore advisable to think about safe routes home in advance, be it by sharing a ride or using public transport.

Previous accident statistics

Another incident that underlines the problem of drunk driving occurred on February 1, 2025 in St. Johann in the Tyrolean district. A 65-year-old German man left the road while driving, ran over several traffic signs and only came to a stop on a cycle path. He also suffered injuries of an undetermined degree and a positive breathalyzer test in the hospital led to the temporary removal of his driving license. The measures taken by the emergency services demonstrate the increasing need to take the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol seriously, as further information from Mission photo reported.

These incidents illustrate the need for measures to improve road safety and the strictness in dealing with the issue of drunk driving. It remains to be hoped that education and prevention can prevent future accidents.
